Religious and cultural sensibilities

"I respect Islam as one of the World's major religions, as well as it's religious symbols. I was deeply distressed that the cartoons were seen by many Muslims as an attempt by Denmark to mock, insult or behave disrespectfully towards Islam or the prophet Mohammed. Nothing could be further from my mind. During my tenure as Secretary General of NATO I will play close attention to the religious and cultural sensibilities of the different communities that populate our increasingly pluralistic and globalized world."

Del secretario general de la OTAN no se esperan grandes palabras, sino sólo frases huecas y decisiones inteligentes. Sin embargo, Fogh Rasmussen ha intentado decir algo para calmar los ánimos de los turcos y hacerse con su favor. Y, con esta finalidad, ha cambiado sus declaraciones cuando se publicaron las viñetas y de algún modo se ha hecho responsable de su publicación. Lo que debería haber dicho, si los turcos no tuvieran la paella por el mango, es que en su país hay libertad de prensa y que si a alguien no le gusta, que s'hi posi fulles.
